THE FASTEST – THE BEST – THE WINNER:
   THE CARRERA WORLD CHAMPION 2008!

Carrera World Champion from Vienna!
The Tuning Show at Lake Constance had only just opened and immediately produced a sporting highlight; the Carrera Track World Championship!

On the stroke of midday on the 1st of May 2008 the Tuning World at Lake Constance witnessed the start of the Carrera World Championship Final 2008. Over half a million Carrera drivers in 10 countries across the globe had battled for the honour of participating in the final.

Ultimately, these half a million plus Carreraristi were whittled down to 15 competitors at the Carrera World Championship 2008. At stake were the ‘World Champion’ title and the main prize of a real 1973 Opel Manta A in Carrera red, with a sports set-up, a navigation system, aluminium rims and a complete built-in Carrera race track in the car boot!

The competitors from Germany, the USA, Hungary, Switzerland, Poland, Spain, Netherlands, France, Belgium and the defending champion, Andreas Loth from Vienna, all put down extremely fast track times in their preliminaries on the Carrera circuit. To ensure everyone was given an even chance all the participants were equipped with Le Mans sports car prototypes of the Audi R10 TDI and the Porsche RS Spyder in the conventional 1:24 scale version.

The Carrera World Championship Final was staged for the first time using a Carrera DIGITAL 124 system. At over 30 metres in length the Carrera race track got a number of the competitors breaking out in a sweat. Overtaking at full speed and high-speed lane-changing required top levels of tactics and challenged drivers’ skills to the limits at a number of points around the circuit.

Andreas Loth from Vienna showed them all yet again by retaining the world champion title he won in 2006. In the end an exciting and action-packed final was won by Andreas Loth from Vienna who finished ahead of Benno Sutter from Switzerland in second, then Tobias Radlinger from Germany in third and Paul van de Hurk from the Netherlands in fourth. A mere 4.3 seconds separated the world champion from the second placed driver, Benno Sutter.

As winner of the first prize Andreas Loth took home a 1973 Carrera Opel Manta A. Following the nerve-wracking final the finalists joined each other for an evening meal as the hobby drivers recounted stories of their passion for Carrera racing, an obsession offering unrivalled excitement and fascination beyond all borders, all around the world.
